Leon Newton, originally from Cleveland, OH, and now a resident of Jackson, MS, has been writing, producing and honing his craft of songwriting for more than 10 years. Newton is well versed in many genres including country, folk, blues, rock, rap and Christian. Leon states, "I enjoy writing country music the most because the songs tell stories about real people and real life situations. A person can learn a lot from country songs. My current pursuit is to land a songwriting contract with a music publisher, and to have my songs recorded by major artists. My life's goal is to write great songs that people can relate to and love to listen and dance to". His most recent composition is a country song titled "Country On My Mind" written about a girl named Country.
Recent accolades include a top finalist spot in Mississippi’s 2007 SongOfTheYear.com songwriting competition for his song “Love Story,” and two wins in 2006 for Newton’s songs, “Global Warming," and "Cintia.” On the topic of global warming Mr. Newton says, "I wrote the song ‘Global Warming’ because this is a serious matter not to be taken lightly. As songwriters and artists, we have a responsibility to help raise public awareness about important issues, and to help keep the world and our environment safe. Music is an art form that can touch us and cause us to act like no other". The song, "Global Warming" has been downloaded all over the world. Leon has also written a catchy song titled "Race Car Junky" for the fans and drivers of NASCAR. Leon is a prolific songwriter on the rise to music industry prominence. Leon has won five platinum awards for: Race Car Junky, Breaking up, Welcome love, Country On My Mind and Too Late. Platinum Auddy Awards is the underlying patterns of the song that have been hits for a long time. The Gold Auddy awards are for two songs: Love Story and Breaking Up. The Gold Auddings Awards are the underlying patterns of the song are similar to songs that have been hits in the past.
